Chinese New Year Delicacies

At the beginning of every New Year, we sit back and reflect on how we can take what happened in years past, and try to move forward with as much good luck and good fortune as possible. Here are some traditional good luck foods that will help you move into your New Year with grace and style. A lot of foods are considered good luck by their pronunciations or what they sound like. For example, in Chinese, fish sounds a lot like surplus. This being the reason fish is one of the main things served during the Chinese New Year.

The making of dumplings with family is a symbol of reunion and is believed to bring good luck and prosperity to the household. Dumplings are also believed to possess longevity and wealth. Chinese dumplings can also be formed to look like a Chinese Silver Ingot. A common theory in China is that the more dumplings you eat during the New Year festivities, the more money you will make for the next year. But you’re not done yet, when making your dumpling the luckiest it can be, you must make sure it has a good number of pleats in the crease or you can put a white thread in the dumpling and it is said that whoever eats the dumpling with the thread will be gifted with longevity. So, with that being said, get to making those dumplings and have a Happy Chinese New Year!
